Alaska and Montana Arts Organizations Thrive Through Murdock Trust
Focused on funding worthy projects across the Pacific Northwest, the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust has worked with more than 3,000 community-based organizations over the past 44 years. Murdock Trust has distributed grants to a variety of arts organizations that offer culturally enriching events to the public.

Having received a 2013 grant from the Murdock Trust, the Hockaday Museum of Art utilized its funds in installing art racks that enhanced the institution’s ability to ensure proper long term conservation of its collection. Among the museum’s regionally focused exhibitions over the past year has been an exhibit that explored Glacier National Park’s artistic legacy.

Another 2013 grant awardee, the Alaska Dance Theatre, was able to employ its funds in improving the artist and audience experience at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. This built on a 2011 grant that enabled the Theatre to bring a company manager to the organization, which enabled the company to attract a high caliber of dancer.

In 2018, the Theatre staged a special two-day “Bernstein & Beyond: Celebrating Leonard Bernstein’s 100th Birthday" event. This combined a live performance of music and dance from the West Side Story with the new ballet Anchored In, which was inspired by Bernstein.
